Two went inside the target time for the Covid-delayed Tokyo 2020. First in that zone was Cassie Wild, on 59.88, after which University of Stirling teammate Kathleen Dawson blasted a 59.16, a few weeks after making her sub-59sec debut, at a meet that saw Wild race inside the minute for the first time…

Men’s 100m backstroke
Joe Litchfield clocked a career best of 54.06, not far shy of the qualification time for Tokyo, before Luke Greenbank clocked 54.36 a touch ahead of Elliott Clogg.
Greenbank is not at his best at trials, a strained ankle impeding his performance, but he is pre-selected for Tokyo, courtesy of his bronze in the 200m backstroke at the World Championships in 2019.
The 100m backstroke has two incentives, the solo effort – and the Britain medley relay, which, with Greenbank, Adam Peaty, James Guy and Duncan Scott claimed the 2019 World title in an historic victory over the United States and the rest.
